NWNP Episode 31 - Part 1: Storytelling Across all NWN Mediums

Posted by Ashercon On July - 26 - 2007

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! Have we got a show for you!! …Oh sorry. I got Annie on my mind. *grins.

For our main topic we have Part 1 an awesome panel discussion about Storytelling across NWN Mediums . The panel consisted of Bruce Nielson, author of the Light Reborn Series , Tony Donadio aka Andarian, author of Sanctum of the ArchMage Module Series , and Kevin Sheehan, creator of the Glorwing gameworld for NWN . Each person brought a different perspective to the discussion, DM Lead module, Single Player module, and full on game or persistent world. In part one they discuss the types of stories that can be told in NWN, how persistent worlds keep the storyline straight for everyone, the challenges faced in each medium, and how interactions are handled. Part 2 and possibly part 3 will be in upcoming episodes. You won’t want to miss!

We got some listener feedback from a Bioware World Design Module competitor. Check out his entry here: Shrinkster: http://shrinkster.com/r3g

  4. ffbj Said,

Once again great podcast. Even though you included my faux pas of mistaking HF for Michelle. The interview was especially interesting as you had some in depth insights into story creation as it relates to different types of Nwn experiences.

Btw it’s Crof as in Laura Croft without the t. Pronounced the same as Crawford. My take on it is that my Scottish ancestors when they moved to England did not want to be identified as Scots thus they anglicized the name.

WOW!! .. oops.. I shouldn’t use that word.. I mean WOW as in .. What an AWSOME show!.. not WOW as in the game that my friends play instead of NWN.. man my friends are clueless! This conversation shows why NWN1 is such a good game.. And these guys are part of the reason NWN1 continues to “have legs”..

I can’t wait for the next installment.. hmm.. but I will wait.. and waiting is good as this new release schedule fits better with my world.

    Keep it up!!! … please..

  8. Kalia Said,

I playted on Glorwing about 3 years ago. Truly that was one of the most magical experiences in my entire NWN career. After leaving GW, there was never another persistent world that measured up quite the same though I had individually good experiences on a few, most notably The World of Rain. :)
But I digress…GREAT podcast as always. Thanks to all your interviewees for their input this week. Storytelling is the life breath of NWN/NWN 2.

I guess I don’t do things to stand out enough so that I am not confused with Foxy :P hehe Maybe I’ll stand on my head and juggle on the next show so I can be remembered. LOL

just kidding! Foxy is a great person! I could be mistaken by far worse.

  14. Erik-OSiodhachain Said,

Thank you Kalia… It is many comments like those I hear from former and current players (though the current community is small) that give me the drive to launch Glorwing 2. Glorwing tries to fill a niche where it isn’t impossible to gain levels, it is NOT a HCR (Hard Core Rules) server, has a fair amount of magic, and tries to emphasize the Role Play aspects.

I had almost as much fun participating in the discussion as I did listening to the show!

  15. ENoa4 Said,

Great episode. I don’t get to participate in DM led modules or persistant worlds often so it was interesting to hear the discussion on how storytelling differs in each type of setting.
