Dirtywick.. that’s what a good interview sounds like.. thank you! .. oh.. and I put your voice through the “make it sound good to everyone else but not the owner” filter… I figured I owed that to ya for trying to butter me up in the beginning.
April 11th, 2008 at 10:57 am

April 11th, 2008 at 11:12 am

April 11th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Interesting. Now I may be way off base here, but just a wild stab in the dark, Zack is from the Jersey shore.
April 11th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I’ll let Zac say where he is from if he choses.
his accent is noticible if you listen well.
April 11th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
foxy.. “All your base are belong to us” has been done.. Jay, always the trend-setter, is breaking new comedic ground.
April 11th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
you cannot make a classic better thats a no go. Its like with “This parrot has ceased to be.” Its not the same if you change it not even close to funny. *nods*Classics mustn’t be changed. You dun take a 60s Dodge charger and rebuild it with all present tech inside. At least not if you are right in the mind. nodnods.
April 11th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
And as we are talking about it. Neverwinter Nights Podcast Gold Editionn? Where are our goodies? T-shirt. cloth map of the podcast lair, mugs. coder rings. rulers, pens, base caps, anything. *looks around* Huh huh?
April 11th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
*steps out of an imaginary 71′ Charger.. whips out some pink paint, gives the ride a shaker-can job.. then takes out the old motor.. drops in a .. ”
aww.. crap.. when you’re right.. you’re right. .. Sorry, Jay.. the world isn’t ready for your twisted take on the comedic classics.
As for goodies.. well.. hmm.. I think I have authority for this.. now that I’m like part of the team and all.. This week.. uh.. you have our heartfelt thanks. .. certainly that’s as good as a mug?
And speaking of mugs.. keep an eye out.. we’ll get some on cafe press or something like that before … uh.. sometime… soon?
April 11th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
You guys know I am just joking right? I love the cast.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I’m from a part of Wisconsin where the accent from the UP leaked into
But I’ve lived in like eight different states in the last seven years, it’s all kind of mashed together.
April 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Cool. Yeah it’s kinda hard to pin down. No wonder with all those influences.
I was going to say it almost had a Canadian tinge to it but, ay. You did not say
ay, enough. So UP, as in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
April 11th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Actually I had a 64 Dodge Charger with push button transmission. Maybe Trey is just pining.
April 11th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
OMG.. HF!! You have a cast?! Our condolences! I hope you’re feeling like yourself soon! Of course I know you’re joking!!

im a FR buff been watching this module and others from FRW for someday when I can game a long campaign from lvl 1 to epic.
good show Dirtywick!
as much as I loved online games back when the first NWN was released on AOL it was too much of a rip off to pay as you play on there. yet Online gaming became very new to alot of people that at the time thought this is as best as it will get. I could image parents being more acepting if their kids raised up bills calling 976 barnyard fantasy phone hotlines then the AOL bill for online games. not to be cold but good riddince to cheap old scams. pay as you play MUDs were a thing back then to , lol no graphics just text roleplay pay as you play. the first NWN was a step up from that but alot of other non AOL online games came out around 1998 and stomped AOL games harder then my words here
on the next patch details Rob first says he wont have much time working on the blog while working on the patches. I hope this wont effect his involvement with the forums out there. he has won alot of respect from me recently with some of his supporting advice out there.
with the Atari security system …… I hope it works…… and Pirates out there dont crack it within a week. this is a good example of how modern day piracy hurts us honest paying folks that love and support these developers. but this new security system… I hope it like notifies the hacker trying to hack our CD key like with a car alarm sound. this CD key is protected by Viper and snakes reach out through the screen and bite em!
April 12th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
There always seems to be a plethora of hackers out there smarter than the security systems. However, I think the integrity buying the product is getting better. The entire world has had so many campaigns to stop piracy. It has had an impact I believe.
As for stopping them all together? Probably not. Just like many other injustices, We can just hope it gets better.
April 12th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I’m sick of game companies penalizing honesty. The hackers will hack.. if you pay more attention and spend more resources on the paying customers you’ll sell more games.
Pirates are a fact of life. And the worse you treat your paying customer.. them more pirates you make… as easy as I hear it is to pirate.. it should be easier to buy and install a game legitimately than it is to steal it.
It’s sad .. but the pirates will likely be playing any game before the paying customers.
For some humor on the issue.. here’s a link to my favorite blog.. (and while you’re there.. check out DM of the Rings!) http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1305
April 13th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Dave, excellent job on your first produced file! Thanks!!
April 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
No worries, Trey. Glad to do it! I wanted to use some Hawaii 5-0 music.. for our 50th.. but there’s that old copyright issue..
April 13th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
LOL! Dave
Hey we made the FRONT PAGE of WarCry!!!
Thanks Kalia!!!

piracy prevention as done today is like the whole marijuana stuff in the netherlands. They spend more and more in commercials against it but the amount of consume did increase. Just when they legalized it consume decresed. It wasn as interesting anymore not forbidden and such.
Software piracy is similar to this. The more difficult a security proves to be the more interesting it becomes for cracker and hacker. So why not saving all the time and money on security and instead make the game less expensive? Same profits more happy customers. Add yummy lil things like development tools and the people are gonna by it just so they are able to play online.
April 15th, 2008 at 6:40 am
Hey, no on-show mention of the medal winners for the MOTY contest?
I’m disappointed.
HalloweenFoxy: I’m probably taking the risk of starting a debate here, but I think the difference between the cases that you cite is that one is a victimless crime, and the other isn’t. Software piracy is theft, and you can’t just turn a blind eye to it. If you do, all that does is to encourage more of it. I think that criticizing the developers for the costs associated with fighting it is a bit of blaming the victim for not being content to let himself be victimized.
As a builder and software developer myself, I have a great deal of sympathy for developers who are having their work stolen from them without respect or just compensation. And I think that the costs associated with protecting their rights are far preferable to the costs of living in a society where such rights are not respected and protected. Without that protection, we’d see precious few innovations (in games or anything else).
April 15th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Andarian.. sorry ’bout that.. only mentioned to top spots .. We’re trying to keep the news segment short but informative… I was hoping people would click the show notes link and from there maybe even click on the individual mods and download them.
as a writer.. one that has recently seen a case of unprosecutable plagurism.. well.. I understand wanting to protect the property.. but if you sell something to the public that is harder to install than something the public steals.. well.. people are lazy.
I think the value-added method of rewarding customers is a better way to go. Give me something for being honest. I have to have the CD in the machine.. I can’t move the program from machine to machine.. but a pirate isn’t limited to these things.
I don’t have the answer.. but I don’t think penalizing your paying customers is the way to go.
Here’s a link to a dialogue on the issue. http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1556
Again.. I don’t have the answer.. I buy programs..

Great discussion on software piracy, one solution to the problem I love is how makers of the Half-Life series handle it. You can install the STEAM client on any macine, once you register your software key you can download that to any machine that has STEAM on it. You have to log in and it will only play for you, but hey, not CD’s and it make it portable. I hope more game developers adopt this.
April 16th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Andarian, do not take my post wrong. I do not think of software piracy as victimless crime, not at all. I am willing to pay for good software and I do pay for my software. What I do not like is the trend that evolving since the middle 90s when software got more and more complex. I dun care losing 50 60 bucks for games as long as they are playable. What I do not like are games that are often not even in its beta phase. You wonder why people pirate software? Well I still purchase my stuff in germany so I got a limited right to return things that don’T work within a few weeks without being asked stupid questions. As example as we are in place that deals with Neverwinter nights NWN2 was UNPLAYABLE for me for several months I was close to return the game and get my money back and necver look at it again. I am sorry. But firms do bring this upon itself. Andarian as developer do you bring out software thats so buggy you cannot use it and earn money with it? I was in that boat for a while burned me out never going to touch a script of any sort again. I say leave the copy protection and spend the money on bugfixing BEFORE the release. Where are the games and software that actually does run upon start? You only find those at free for all releases or at bprograms that costs 300 bucks and more.

Maybe you guys could could do 2 shows a day

@halloweenfoxy, my foot is getting better. I’ll be in a splint for another week, then three weeks in a non-weight bearing cast, followed by a month in a weight bearing cast (but I’ll be able to walk with out crutches at that point.)
April 17th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
